Spring break week offers lots to do at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Spring break is April 21 through 29 and the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is holding some special events to make the week off from school even more fun.

Meet the New Camels!

Among the attractions for the week, the zoo’s new additions, Bactrian camels Patrick and George will be doing their first meet-and-greets at 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, April 24 and 26. Come check out these double-humped creatures and learn how their endangered wild counterparts adapted to life in the rocky Gobi Desert of Mongolia.

World Penguin Day, Wednesday, April 25

In observance of World Penguin Day, the zoo will hold a special Penguin Keeper Chat at 3 p.m. April 25. The zoo’s penguin mascot will be on hand in the upper lobby from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Enter a raffle for a gift basket to benefit animal care at the zoo and conservation in the wild. Zoo guests are encouraged to take a pic at the penguin photo booth and post it with hashtag #WorldPenguinDay.

Party for the Planet Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The zoo’s annual Earth Day celebration takes place April 28. Visit “green” activity stations to learn about ways you can help take care of Planet Earth. Chat with zoo staff at animal demonstrations and keeper talks featuring some of the zoo’s resident endangered species and learn how the zoo helps save threatened animals and sustain biodiversity.
