Canastota Public Library announces May programs

The Canastota Central School District will be displaying some of the winning artwork from their District Wide Art Show at the Canastota Public Library this year.

The Lawson Community Room will be used to display the winning entries created by the talented students of the school district. Stop by, anytime the library is open, to browse this eclectic collection.

Beginning on May 15 and throughout the entire week, The Canastota Seed Exchange will be holding our Annual Seedling and Plant Exchange. Bring your tubers, plants, seedlings, divisions, plants or bulbs to exchange and/or share with others. Our Plant Exchange will be located near our Main Entrance of the library.

On Saturday, May 19 th , come to the library at 1pm and learn how to play the ukulele. Our Ukulele classes are taught by Deb Guarneiri, an experienced piano and ukulele teacher with many years of experience. Beginner Ukulele classes start at 1pm, followed by sessions singing Hawaiian songs and the experience of playing ukuleles in a group. These lessons are free with Guarneiri volunteering her services. Sign-ups are preferred. There are some ukuleles that may be borrowed for lessons.

On Tuesday May 22 nd  at 6:30 pm the Canastota Public Library will host a special interview with WWII Veteran Boyd Paquin.  Paquin was a bombardier in the Eight Air Force 2490 th  Bomber Group, 851 st  Squardron.  He flew 10 missions in a B-24 before flying 20 missions in a B-17.  He completed his 30th mission in late 1944 and then was transferred to Texas to train Brazilian cadets.  He returned home, attended Colgate University and then taught in local school districts until 1967.  There is no charge for this event.  For more information please call 315-366- 2453.

Are you nearing retirement age? On Thursday, May 24 at 6pm, John Kalil, President of Retirement Solutions, LLC will offer a Social Security Information Session at the library. This exciting program is designed to help pre-retirees (age 55+) make informed retirement decisions. The session is open to anyone who might be interested.

The Book Chat Group has selected “Mrs. Dalloway” by Virginia Woolf as their discussion book for the May Meeting. Copies of the book are available now from the library. The Book Chat will meet on Tuesday, May 29 at 1pm in the Lawson Room on the second floor of the library. The Lunch & Lit Book Club meets on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:30am at The Three Pines. Their selection for the month is “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie” by Allen Bradley. Both groups welcome new readers for discussion at every meeting!

The Night Time Knitters meet every Thursday evening at the Canastota Public Library from 6:30pm until 8pm. The Library Knitters meet every Friday morning at the Library from 10 am until noon. Both groups are interested in having knitters of all experience levels join them for knitting in the Lawson Community Room, Lower Level of the library.

Baby and Me Lap Sit with Miss Angela is a program full of story reading, finger plays, songs, rhymes and more to stimulate your infant to 24 month old child. This program is held every Wednesday morning beginning at 10am on the second floor of the Canastota Public Libra

Thursdays at 10am is Preschooler Storytime. Bring your preschooler for stories, games, crafts and a snack. This group meets on the second floor of the library each Thursday morning.

Party Bridge is played at the library each Thursday afternoon at 1pm in our Lawson Community Room. Participants should be experienced Bridge Players and not beginners, please. Party Bridge is an open group and welcomes you to come and play.
