Brindisi: Thanks to New York’s U.S. Senators, Senate Defense Appropriations Bill does not propose a 25-percent cut to DFAS

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica issued the following statement June 8, 2018, reacting to an announcement from Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand that the Senate’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act does not include a 25-percent cut to the Defense Finance and Accounting Services in Rome and other Department of Defense agencies.

Brindisi held a press conference at DFAS last week, where he said the House version of the bill included the cut.

“The sigh of relief that so many of us feel right now is because we huddled together, drew attention to a problem, and pushed a plan to right a terrible wrong. Today’s news from Senators Schumer and Gillibrand has delivered an exhale heard ‘round the region, because so many hardworking people were holding their breaths in hopes we could undo this very bad provision. The message is clear: when we band together, this region can win.”
