Tenney: DOJ Now Accepting Applications for STOP School Violence Grants
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance are seeking applications for funding under the Student, Teachers and Officers Preventing School Violence Act Program.
These grants will provide $50 million to train teachers and students and to develop an anonymous reporting system for threats of school violence.
The deadline to apply for these grants is July 23.
“Communities and law enforcement must work together to prevent violence and tragedy like we saw in Parkland, Fla., from occurring in the future,” Tenney said. “This starts with ensuring law enforcement has the resources to invest in early intervention and prevention programs. The grants will provide resources to properly train students, teachers, school officials and local law enforcement how to identify and intervene when signs of violence arise. I encourage every school in the 22nd District to apply for this important grant opportunity.”
Tenney was a cosponsor of the STOP School Violence Act, which authorized this grant program and voted to pass the legislation in March.
