Citizen Action Endorses Rachel May in 53rd Senate District

Citizen Action of New York has announced its endorsement of Rachel May in the 53rd Senate District.

May is challenging former Deputy Leader of the Independent Democratic Conference David Valesky. The IDC was dissolved earlier this year under increasing pressure and scrutiny from Democratic leaders and community groups, who hold the IDC responsible for blocking numerous pieces of progressive legislation, as well as benefiting financially from their splinter group–taking millions from hedge funders and charter school operators over the past several years.

Citizen Action members praised May’s strong positions on campaign finance reform, equitable funding for public schools, criminal justice reform, and single-payer health care.

“Rachel May is what I would call a true progressive. Not only is she not afraid to take on the big fights and demand the big solutions, but she is ready to work hard to address the problems facing our communities,” said Nancy Rabinowitz, Citizen Action member from Clinton. “I know from personal experience that Rachel is approachable and will go the extra mile to meet with people of the 53rd Senate District. We are a small community, but she came to meet us. We need someone who will listen to her constituents and hear their concerns, and stand up for us in Albany. Rachel May is that person. She will be a true representative, a champion of the people. We are proud to stand with her in the fight for a better New York.”

“Citizen Action of New York is on the frontline of the most important fights for justice in our state – and has been for decades. I am so proud to have their endorsement. Our mutual commitment to advancing racial justice, fully funding public schools, providing health care to every person in our state, and ending the influence of big money in politics is vital to Central New Yorkers,” said Rachel May, Democratic candidate in the 53rd Senate District. “Citizen Action is a leader in progressive politics and I look forward to working with them to win in September and beyond.”
