Orienteering Challenge with Friends of Rogers
Never worry about getting lost again; join Friends of Rogers at 10 a.m. Aug. 18 to learn navigation skills using a map and compass with a NYS Licensed Outdoor Guide from Cruz Outdoors.
Participants will then set their bearings and head off into the woods to complete an Orienteering Challenge course with the chance to win prizes.
“We are extremely grateful to Cruz Outdoors for partnering with us this year,” said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers executive director. “Generous support from local businesses such as Cruz Outdoors allows us to continue offering high-quality recreational programming. Learning to navigate through Rogers Center landscapes gives visitors a chance to experience familiar vistas from new perspectives.”
Recommended for ages 10 and up; no prior experience is needed. Maps and compasses will be provided. The meet-up location for the Orienteering Challenge is the Adams Farm trailhead on Route 80 in Sherburne.
Pre-register by noon Aug. 17; individual admission is $8 per member and $14 for not-yet-members or $10 for teams of two who are Friends of Rogers members and $18 for those teams of two who are not-yet-members. To register, call (607) 674-4733, or email sr.educator@FriendsofRogers.org.
Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit
organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Summer hours are from 10 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
