Tenney issues statement in response to Skelos conviction

In response to a conviction on federal corruption charges of former Senate Majority leader Dean Skelos, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney released the following statement:

“Albany’s culture of corruption isn’t about party, it’s about an abuse of power,” Tenney said. “Today, Mr. Skelos rejoins the infamous group of convicted politicians and Cuomo cronies that maintain Albany’s reputation as a national embarrassment. I renew my call for Albany politicians like Anthony Brindisi, who enabled this unprecedented line of convictions, to take up critical ethics reform that will save New York taxpayers from more career politicians and their costly schemes.”

Directly following the federal corruption charges in 2015, Tenney called on Senator Dean Skelos to step down from his position as Majority leader.

Tenney said she was the first to call for former Speaker Sheldon Silver to resign after it was revealed he used taxpayer money to cover up the sexual harassment of women in the Assembly. Tenney introduced a series of ethics reform to clean up Albany. She said those efforts were ignored. In Congress, Tenney said she is leading the fight against Washington’s rigged system by holding corrupt politicians accountable and fighting for term limits.
