Cazenovia Public Library plans August events

Library to host interactive Junior Book Club

Cazenovia Public Library’s “Wild and Wonderful Readers” junior book club will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 3:30 p.m., in the Story Garden Room. The session, led by Children’s Program Coordinator Jenna Wright Martin, will combine book discussion, games, and hands-on creative activities. The group will discuss Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. The book is the winner of the 1995 Newbery Medal. The novel weaves together two tales to create a moving story of love, loss, and cultural identity.

On a road trip from Ohio to Idaho, 13-year-old Salamanca (Sal) Tree Hiddle entertains her grandparents with an outrageous story about her friend Phoebe, who is coping with the disappearance of her mother. In the telling of her story, the tragic events of Sal’s own mother’s disappearance are revealed.

The junior book club is open to children ages 8-12. Books are available at the circulation desk.

LEGO-building session planned for Aug. 6

The Cazenovia Public Library invites children ages 5 and older to the Community Room Monday, Aug. 6, at 3:30 p.m., for the chance to channel their inner architect and get building! Children’s Programming Coordinator Jenna Wright Martin will lead “LEGO My Library,” a fun, hands-on program for young builders. Participants will have access to the Library’s vast collection of LEGO construction toys. The program will feature a LEGO submarine challenge and time for creative construction.

The Library is a place of imagination and discovery. Programs like “LEGO My Library” allow children to socialize, be creative, and see their imaginings come to life. Construction toys offer significant educational benefits to children of all ages. Not only is hands-on play fun and exciting, but it also helps to develop motor and spatial skills, ingenuity, critical thinking, social and language proficiencies, and more!
