Town of Lee man arrested for stealing mail from neighbors mailbox

On June 20, 2018, Troopers began investigation into an ongoing issue of mail missing from a mail box in the town of Lee. The complainant, suspecting that his mail was being stolen, set up an “Informed Delivery” account with the U.S. Postal Service.

The Informed Delivery service allows the user to see scanned images of each piece of mail prior to its delivery. After confirming that several pieces of mail were never received, State Police conducted a six-week investigation with the assistance of the Rome Post Office, a postal investigator and mail carrier for the route.

As a result of the investigation, Edward A. Davis, 69, of Felton Avenue in Lee, was arrested for the mail theft. Davis was charged with two counts of petit larceny, an A misdemeanor; third-degree criminal tampering, an A misdemeanor; and second-degree harassment, a violation.

Davis was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lee Town Court Aug. 22, 2018, at 4:30 p.m.
