Brindisi reacts to award of homeland security/emergency preparedness funding for communities

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica issued the statement below upon Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that he has awarded nearly $224 million – including nearly $265,000 for Oneida County and nearly $90,000 for Herkimer County – for homeland security funding, and more than $92,000 for Oneida County and nearly $29,000 for Herkimer County for emergency management performance.

The funding will help support planning, training, and other emergency preparedness and homeland security efforts for communities to respond to man-made and natural disasters.

“These anti-terrorism dollars I worked with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer’s office to advocate for will help ensure our community has the tools it needs to thwart terrorism and other threats that risk the safety of our community. The key to responding to the many needs that arise during and after natural disasters and emergencies is planning and preparedness. This funding will help ensure communities have the adequate programs and resources to keep residents in the Mohawk Valley and across the state safe and well informed when emergency situations occur.”
