Madison County awarded $1.3 million

Madison County is happy to announce that over the past few months the County has been awarded over $1.3 million in federal and state grant funds.  These grants will be used to help the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison County Department of Emergency Management better serve the community.

These grant funds are used to enhance the ability of local governments to prepare, prevent and respond to disasters, terrorist attacks, and other emergencies.

“The County’s ability to secure these funds will help law enforcement and first responders to be better prepared and better equipped to respond to an emergency situation,” said Madison County Chairman John Becker.  “I applaud our staff for working diligently to secure these funds to better serve the citizens of Madison County without increasing taxes.”

The following grants have been secured by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office:

–       NYS DHSES Explosive Detection K9 Grant ($14,990) – for explosives training

–       NYS DHSES State Law Enforcement Terrorism Protection Program Grant ($31,241) – to purchase information gathering equipment

–       NY DHSES Tactical Team Grant ($99,839) – training and equipment

–       US Department of Justice Bullet Proof Vest Grant ($23,058)

–       NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Traffic Safety Grants ($10,332 and $24,013) –  to participate in initiatives to reduce accidents, injuries, dangerous driving behaviors and increase seat belt usage.

–       BRIDGES ($5,000) – to reduce and eliminate underage drinking and use of drugs

–       DWI Crackdown ($12,300) – to enforce DWI laws and eliminate drinking while driving or ability impaired by drugs

–       NYS Canal Corp ($30,000) – Boat and bike patrol on NYS canal

–       NYS Marine Patrol – Reimburses the county for 50% of all expenses to patrol on Madison County bodies of water and ability to lease a NYS boat free of charge

–       NYS Parks Snowmobile Patrol – Reimburses the county for 50% of expenses to patrol on snowmobile trails.

–       Donation of a Bullet Proof Vest for K9 Micah from by anonymous sponsor through Vested Interest in K9’s, Inc.

The following grants have been secured by the Madison County Department of Emergency Management and Madison County 911:

–       NYS DHSES Technical Rescue Grant Program ($64,250) – provides additional training and necessary equipment to the County Technical Rescue Team.

–       Department of Homeland Security’s Statewide Homeland Security Program ($93,750) – supports emergency response efforts with funding for communication equipment, cyber security firewall and Emergency Operations Center capabilities.

–       FEMA Emergency Management Performance Grant ($32,274) – reimburses the County for a portion of the Emergency Management director’s salary.

–       NYS DHSES Public Safety Answering Point Grant ($163,643) – reimburses the County for a portion of the cost of wages of the 911 Center staff salaries.

–       NYS DHSES Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant ($782,596) – supports the sustainability of the Land Mobile Radio system and creation of the back-up 911 location at Troop D Headquarters.
