Morrisville Public Library announces December 2018 events

Library Closures: We are closed from Monday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m., through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, to observe the winter holidays.

Giving Tree Fundraiser: Shop for the library this holiday season from now through Jan. 19, 2019. We have several items the library needs. It’s EASY. Grab a Christmas tag off our giving tree of something you would like to donate to the library. Buy it, donate it, whatever it says and bring the tag and the item in as soon as you can. We would like all donations turned in by Jan. 31, 2019.

Kiddies Korner: Bring the little ones in Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m., for our preschool story hour. We are having fun with the topic, “Counting and Numbers.” Stories, finger plays, a craft and more.

BLOX, Lego Club: Come join the fun Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. We provide the Lego’s; come and show us your expertise. Topics change every time we meet but building and fun is what it’s all about. All ages are welcome (young and old) and you do not need to attend every time. Come when you can. Bring a healthy snack if you can. (This club meets every month.)

Annual Open House: Come in to the library Friday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m., for some delicious goodies and holiday cheer. See what theme we chose for our Christmas tree. Be sure to sign up for your chance to win your own “Elf on the Shelf” book set or an adult Christmas coloring book. Place your final bids for our Silent Auction. Santa Claus will be here too. The kids can play games, watch some Christmas movies, and make some crafts and more. Lots of fun for the ENTIRE family. Take a break from the busy holiday season and join us.

Silent Auction Ends: Bidding ends Friday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., so be sure stop in and place your final bid before then. Perfect gifts to bid on, win and give to loved ones this holiday season. The silent auction is being held in the library’s program room.

Adulting 101-Basic Budgeting and Money Management: Every month we will host an Adulting class for patrons ages 15 to 25 (though all ages over 15 are welcome.) There are many things we may not know how to do and together we can learn. This month Kelly Foster, Library Board Trustee, is hosting our class Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. She will be teaching us simple cooking terms and we will be making no-bake Christmas cookies and prepping the dry ingredients to another great Christmas cookie we can take home and finish.

NERF Battle Night: Bring your own Nerf equipment (darts too–please label them) and join us for open play around the library Friday, Dec. 14, from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Bring your own Nerf equipment (darts, too–please label them) and join us for open play around the library. See if the library stacks provide you enough shelter from getting hit by a friend’s foam dart. Open to ages 10 and up; so adults are welcome too. Everyone must bring a snack and beverages will be provided. ONLY 16 spaces are available. ALL participants MUST sign up in the library and get a permission slip to return completed the night of. We will not allow people to complete permission slips at the door.

Homework Club: Homework club meets afterschool Monday, Dec. 17, until 5 p.m. Homework will be done, help will be provided and a healthy snack for all. Board games or crafts will also fill the time when homework is done. (Homework club meets every Monday until mid-June 2019.)

Book Talk: Looking for a good book to read? How about joining our book talk Wednesday Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m., as we will be reading Mr. Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva. Copies can be picked up now. Discussion open to teens and adults, so grab a book, read it and come join us for a sure to be fun discussion.

Family Movie Night – Smallfoot: We are showing the movie, Smallfoot, Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. We provide the popcorn; just bring your own beverage. Come see this cute movie, perfect for the colder weather.
