City of Oneida announces tree-lighting festivities Dec. 1

The City of Oneida Parks & Recreation Department’s annual tree lighting event will be held Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Kallet Civic Center, 159 Main St., will host Christmas Crafts for Kids at 3:30 p.m. Decorate your own cookie and make an ornament and reindeer food. There will be a photo spot with one of Santa’s elves and a gingerbread man and card-making for local senior residents.

At 4:30 p.m., the Guzman Studio and Roots Dance Company of Fayetteville will present The Grinch. This is a family-friendly dance version of the classic tale of how the Grinch learned the true meaning of the season. A perfect way to start the holiday season.

Free hot chocolate and snack provided.

At 5 p.m., all in attendance will be led to Higinbotham Park to prepare for the arrival of Santa by fire truck at 5:30 p.m. to listen to children’s wishes. The tree will then be lit at 6 p.m. There will be music and caroling and hot chocolate served.

This year’s event is also sponsored by Kallet Civic Center, Oneida Girl Scout Unit 230 and the 4H Working Bees.

The event is free and open to the public.
