Driver arrested after leaving the scene of a property damage accident in the city of Syracuse
On Dec. 8, 2018, Troopers assigned to the Syracuse Initiative were searching for a vehicle wanted in a property damage hit-and-run accident that occurred at the intersection of North Salina Street and Wolf Street in the city of Syracuse.
A short time later, troopers spotted the suspect vehicle on Bridge Street in the town of Geddes. They interviewed the driver, Charles T. Duffy, 35, from Syracuse, who admitted to being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Duffy, after being advised he was under arrest, refused to comply with all verbal commands and physically resisted being taken into custody.
Duffy continued to actively resist and was subsequently taken into custody after a taser was utilized for compliance.
Duffy was arrested on charges of DWI, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.Duffy was transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center to await centralized arraignment.
State police were assisted at the scene by the town of Geddes Police Department.
Fatal snowmobile crash in Lewis County
On Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at approximately 11:15 a.m., State Police responded to Flat Rock Road in the town of Montague for a report of a serious injury snowmobile accident.
The investigation revealed a 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade Snowmobile operated by18-year-old Luke A. Tyrrell was eastbound on Flat Rock Road (state snowmobile trail C5D) when he lost control, struck an earth embankment on the south shoulder of the trail and then struck a tree.
Tyrrell was transported to Lewis County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation continues.
