MVRC wraps up annual food drive
The Rotary Club of the Mohawk Valley recently completed its second annual food drive; the event kicked off with a large donation of non-perishable food items from Hannaford Supermarket in Herkimer.
Many local companies and restaurants allowed us to leave a box in their place of business, which helped us collect more than 500 pounds of food to be split between Catholic Charities in Ilion and the Salvation Army of Herkimer County.
Area schools, including Herkimer High School students and Central Valley Academy middle school students, participated. The club received generous donations from community members and organizations.
“We are thankful to our friends at the Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley who has supported us with a $350 donation two years in a row,”said club president Elyse Bellows.
The club presented Captain John Wood with the Salvation Army and Sue Tucker representing Catholic Charities of Ilion each a check for $200,in addition to splitting the food donated between both organizations.
