Explore the wonders of winter with ‘Learning Lectures’ and ‘EdVentures’ at Rogers Center

Friends of Rogers continues offering expanded programming at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne. Explore a specific topic with an experienced expert in a casual atmosphere during ‘Learning Lectures,’ and go outside for a fun, hand’s-on educational experience with ‘EdVentures.’

For the month of January, Senior Educator Marissa Nolan leads both sessions, when guests will explore the wonders of winter in nature.

“Should I Stay or Should I Go?” continues the ‘Learning Lecture’ series Jan. 2 at 6:30 pm. Want to escape winter? Most animals migrate to warmer climates or hibernate through the worst of the cold. There are others, though, who choose to “tough it out!” Discover the different strategies our animal neighbors use to survive the winter months.

During “Maple Meander” on January 12 at 1:30 pm, explore the Selleck Sugarbush at Rogers Center and investigate the journey syrup takes, from tree to table. Weather permitting, snow-shoes will be used for this hike.

Visitors should plan to meet in the main parking lot and then caravan to the maple forest. Note that this ‘EdVenture’ will be held on a Saturday afternoon for better visibility of the trail.

‘Learning Lectures’ and ‘EdVentures’ are recommended for ages 13 and up. Individual registration is $4 per member and $5 for not-yet-members; family registration is $10 for those who are Friends of Rogers members and $12 for those who are not-yet-members. Paid pre-registration is strongly suggested by noon the day prior; call (607) 674-4733, or email sr.educator@FriendsofRogers.org for more details.

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
