“The Wild and Wonderful Readers” junior book club will hold its next meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden Room. The session will combine a book discussion, games and hands-on creative activities. The group will discuss the Newbery Medal–winning classic Julie of the Wolves (1972) by Jean Craighead George.

Set on the Alaska North Slope, the story follows Miyax, a young Inuit girl torn between cultural tradition and the modern world. When life in her small village becomes dangerous, she flees her home and becomes lost on the vast Alaskan tundra. Desperate for food, Miyax forms a bond with a wolf pack in order to gain meat and protection. She observes the ways of the wolves and learns to survive in the wilderness. When she finds her way back to civilization, Miyax must choose between a life in the human world and a life in the wild.

The junior book club is open to children ages 10 to 14. Books are available at the circulation desk. All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call 315.655.9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
