Utica congressman-elect makes ‘Center for Responsive Politics’ top 10 list for 2018 of members of Congress with the largest proportion of small dollar contributions

The Center for Responsive Politics says Congressman-elect Anthony Brindisi will go to the 116th Congress with one of the highest shares of small, individual donations funding their campaign.

The group says Brindisi is on its top 10 list of incoming Congressional members who raised the largest amount of their total campaign contributions from individual contributions under $200.

“I always intended my campaign for Congress to be a grass roots effort, and there is no question that small, individual donations really made the difference,” Brindisi said. “I pledged that I would not take donations from large corporate PAC’s, and I think was able to demonstrate that it is possible to win without big-money donors.”

Brindisi was listed as the member of Congress with the seventh-highest portion of total campaign funds raised from small, individual donors. It said Brindisi was the only member of the new Congress on its list who had a close race. Members of both parties were on the group’s top 10, including long-time members like John Lewis, Devin Nunes and Steve Scalise.

The Center for Responsive Politics is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that focuses on issues pertaining to fundraising and lobbying in elections and public policy. Its list of the top 10 donors was released on its website, OpenSecrets.org.
