Colgate Women’s Hockey senior forward Jessie Eldridge has been named a nominee for the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award, as announced Thursday by the award foundation.

Eldridge is just one of four female nominees in the group of 17 that spans both divisions in NCAA hockey. She is also the only nominee in ECAC Women’s Hockey.

The award is given each year to college hockey’s finest citizen – a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.

The Barrie, Ontario native has been at the forefront of some of the most memorable moments in program history, but she has been a part of endeavors off the ice that will leave an even longer impact. She has spent countless hours with multiple programs both on and off campus and has still been one of the most prolific scorers in program history.

She has been a part of the Learn to Skate program at Colgate since her freshman year, which helps young local children with disabilities learn to skate. Now in her fourth year with the program, she leads the program and is currently organizing an Autism Awareness Fundraiser event, which is set for February.

Eldridge has also been involved in the local community with Pathfinder Village, which is a community and school for young adults with Down syndrome. She has interned at the village and was very involved with day-to-day functions of the community. She also submitted research at the end of her internship where she discussed the recruitment and retention of direct support caregivers for aging individuals with disabilities have.

She has also been involved with Colgate’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2016 as the Women’s Hockey team’s representative. She is also currently the vice president of the committee.

On the ice, Eldridge is currently seven points shy of tying the program’s all-time record for scoring in NCAA Division I and leads the Raiders this season with 25 points through 20 games. She has 134 career points in 135 career games played.

Finalists for the award will be announced in February. The winner will be honored in a ceremony of Friday, April 12th as part of the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four weekend in Buffalo
