On Jan. 15, 2019, State Police in Oneida arrested 24-year-old Nikole E. Waterman of Rome for third-degree grand larceny (a D felony) and first-degree identity theft (a D felony) following a week-long investigation into multiple fraudulent Western Union bank transfers that were reported in the town of Camden.

Approximately $4,796 had been transferred from the victim’s bank account through various Western Union locations throughout Oneida County.

Upon investigation and collaboration with Western Union’s Fraud Department, it was discovered that Waterman had received the monies at the various locations and accessed the account by impersonating a family member of the victim.

Waterman was remanded to the Oneida County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or bail bond; she is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.
