On the morning of Jan. 17, 2019, the Morrisville Eaton Middle-High School principal opened an email from a concerned citizen advising that a 16-year-old female was threatening to shoot up the school.
The principal contacted 911, and the school was placed on lockout. When a school is in lockout no unauthorized visitors are allowed to enter the building. Several members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the state police responded to the scene to ensure the safety of the students and the staff.
An investigation was conducted and it was discovered that a 16-year-old female posted comments on Instagram about shooting up a school. She also posted photographs of herself holding what appeared to be a handgun. The sheriff’s office located the female and took her into custody. The gun was recovered and was found to be a BB gun.
The female was arrested for making a terroristic threat (a class D felony) and was arraigned in the youth part of Madison County Superior Court where she was released.
