SUNY Morrisville is hosting a Regional Applied Learning Conference,\nFriday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, showcasing the strengths of applied learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference is co-sponsored by SUNY Morrisville, SUNY Poly\nand MVCC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From its very beginning in 1908, SUNY Morrisville has emphasized\na hands-on approach to learning by doing, which is reflected in its distinctive\nfacilities and operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conference schedule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, March 29: Experiential Education Academy workshop, \u201cEnhancing\nTeaching, Learning, and the Student Experience,\u201d for SUNY faculty and staff<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, March 30 (free and open to the public): Keynote speaker\nRandy Wolken, president and CEO of the Manufacturer\u2019s Association of Central New\nYork, will discuss, \u201cPresenting the Strengths of Applied Learning,\u201d from 9 -9:45\na.m. in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities theater. MACNY serves\nmore than 330 companies with more than 100,000 employees in a 26-county region in\nUpstate New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wolken also is president and CEO of the Manufacturers Alliance\nof New York, a coalition of manufacturing groups representing more than 2,500 companies\nand more than 425,000 manufacturing employees throughout New York state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A student showcase, \u201cThe Strengths of Applied Learning \u2014 The\nPower to Produce,\u201d takes place from 10-11:30 a.m. in the STUAC lobby and lower level,\nwhich illustrates \u2014 through photos and posters \u2014 student experiences, learning engagement,\nresearch, service training and client-based projects impacted by applied learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through action-oriented labs, true-to-life facilities and internships,\nSUNY Morrisville students engage in ways that go beyond the traditional classroom\nenvironment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the hands-on learning with distinctive facilities and operations\nare: 1,000 acres of farm and woodland; a dairy complex; the full-service Copper\nTurret Restaurant & Brewhouse; an Aquaculture Center with year-round fish and\nvegetable production; a 12,000-square-foot greenhouse; and an Automotive Technology\nBuilding replicating an auto dealership with state-of-the-art laboratories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
