Attorney General Letitia James released the following\nstatement regarding the passage of legislation updating sexual harassment laws\nregarding prevention policies and the claims process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is no place for sexual harassment in the workplace.\nThis commonsense legislation updates our state\u2019s harassment laws by\nestablishing stronger protections for employees and steps up our sexual\nharassment prevention policies. New Yorkers strive to build inclusive\ncommunities\u2014free of fear, intimidation and harassment. Thanks to the work of\nthe bill\u2019s sponsors, Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas and State\nSenator Alessandra Biaggi, this bill bring us one step closer to making\nthat ideal a reality.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill (S6577<\/a>\/A8421<\/a>) clarifies that human rights laws apply to public\nemployers and lower the \u201csevere and pervasive\u201d standard currently needed to\nsubmit a claim, establishing further protections for employees.
