NRCS-NY Announces\nApplication Cutoff Dates for NRCS Conservation Programs<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Natural Resources Conservation Service announces\nJuly 19, 2019, as the application cutoff date for the General signup for the Environmental\nQuality Incentives Program for Fiscal Year 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the EQIP program, NRCS offers financial and technical\nassistance to participants to implement practices which address priority\nresource concerns, including soil erosion, water quality and habitat\ndegradation. Focus areas within the EQIP program include the farmstead, soil\nmanagement, habitat, forestry and grazing. \nExamples of practices implemented through EQIP include: strip cropping,\ngrassed waterways, forest stand improvement and manure storage facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NRCS will work with applicants to review potential resource\nconcerns on the land included in the application and to develop a conservation\nplan to address the identified resource concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications accepted after July 19, 2019 will be considered\nin the next signup. All applications are competitive and are ranked based on\nnational, state and locally identified resource priorities and the overall\nbenefit to the environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announcing the application\ncutoff date for the Young Forest Initiative to benefit Native Wildlife in New\nYork <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wildlife Management Institute, in partnership with the\nNatural Resources Conservation Service, Audubon New York, the National Wild\nTurkey Federation, Quality Deer Management Association and the Ruffed Grouse\nSociety, is offering an opportunity for producers in New York state to apply\nfor financial assistance to address insufficient young forest habitat for\ntargeted wildlife species. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, New York State has experienced a decline in\nthe populations of the New England Cottontail, Golden-Winged Warbler, American\nWoodcock and other species of native wildlife. \nThe reductions in population are associated with a decline of young\nforest, a crucial habitat type. The term \u201cYoung Forest\u201d is used to describe ecosystems\ndensely occupied with seedlings, saplings, shrubs, and other early-successional\nplants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program,\nfunding is available to private forest owners and operators for forest\nstewardship planning and for implementing practices that restore young forest\nhabitat. Local Partners and NRCS offices will work together to provide\nassistance to producers in planning and implementing conservation practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This RCPP partnership announces Aug. 16, 2019, as the\napplication cutoff date for the next round of funding. All applications are\ncompetitive and are ranked based on locally identified resource priorities and\nthe overall benefit to the environment. Interested landowners should contact\ntheir local NRCS office for additional information and to obtain an\napplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
