Anthony Brindisi<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Last week, Brindisi stood with first responders in Rome\nand Endwell to call for bill\u2019s swift passage<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) stood with\nfirst responders in Rome and Endwell to call on Congressional leadership to\nmake good on their promise to support 9\/11 first responders and their families\nby allowing a vote on legislation to permanently reauthorize the 9\/11 Victims\nCompensation Fund. July 9, House leadership announced the House of\nRepresentatives scheduled a vote for Friday, July 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.congress.gov_bill_116th-2Dcongress_house-2Dbill_1327-3Fq-3D-257B-2522search-2522-253A-255B-2522HR-2B1327-2522-255D-257D-26s-3D1-26r-3D1&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=L93KkjKsAC98uTvC4KvQDdTDRzAeWDDRmG6S3YXllH0&amp;r=KPOgZnCPe_UPdXXOIr0IcNmRq1wrdaZM8A5DRDMGRFo&amp;m=DYon1u5KX8rPib6tWfW0ApEpx4OFhARox4B06MbPZkU&amp;s=jgIYbO_k6WNJzZyDW1sIFFT26qVSbF5xII125DUQez0&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;<em>Never\nForget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim\nCompensation Fund Act (H.R. 1327)<\/em><\/a>, which permanently extends the\nexpiring 9\/11 Victim Compensation Fund, has 332 cosponsors in the House, well\nover the 218 votes needed to pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m encouraged House leadership has scheduled a vote on\nthis critical legislation,\u201d&nbsp;said\nBrindisi.\u201cPermanently reauthorizing the 9\/11 Victims Compensation Fund\nis the right thing to do for these brave men and women who selflessly put their\nlives on the line. Our first responders and their families cannot wait any\nlonger.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;VCF&#8221; was created to provide compensation for\nthose who suffered physical harm or were killed as a result of the 9\/11 terror\nattack or the debris removal efforts that took place after the crashes. The\noriginal VCF ran from 2001-2004.&nbsp; In 2011, Congress passed the<em>&nbsp;James\nZadroga 9\/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010&nbsp;<\/em>to allow the VCF to\noperate for a period of five years, ending in October 2016. Congress passed a\nreauthorization of that bill in 2015, which included a five-year\nreauthorization of the VCF, allowing individuals to submit their claims until\nDec. 18, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, the VCF has received <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.vcf.gov_pdf_VCFProgramStatistics05102019.pdf&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=L93KkjKsAC98uTvC4KvQDdTDRzAeWDDRmG6S3YXllH0&amp;r=KPOgZnCPe_UPdXXOIr0IcNmRq1wrdaZM8A5DRDMGRFo&amp;m=DYon1u5KX8rPib6tWfW0ApEpx4OFhARox4B06MbPZkU&amp;s=Qk7P9AFdYRpgxP1yDa3a9QKAgqyogy1OCE6UxHWJJVo&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">48,548<\/a>&nbsp;eligibility\nclaims, with 23,390 claimants eligible for compensation.
