Anthony Brindisi<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Brindisi secures key win in House National Defense\nAuthorization Act or Sherrill Manufacturing\u2019s Liberty Tabletop Flatware; passes\nSPOONSS Act through House for first time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) successfully passed\nthe&nbsp;Support Procurement of our Nation\u2019s Stainless Steel Act&nbsp;through\nthe House of Representatives as part of the&nbsp;National Defense Authorization\nAct. The&nbsp;SPOONSS Act&nbsp;requires the Department of Defense to purchase\nAmerican-made flatware and dinnerware for servicemembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This legislation&nbsp;re-instates the Berry Amendment\u2019s\nlong-standing Department of Defense domestic sourcing requirement for stainless\nsteel flatware. Brindisi secured this provision in the&nbsp;NDAA. The&nbsp;SPOONS&nbsp;Act\nwas introduced in previous years but was defeated each time it came to a vote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen choosing between supporting and creating American jobs\nover Chinese jobs\u2014I\u2019ll choose hardworking Americans every time,\u201d&nbsp;Brindisi\nsaid.&nbsp;\u201cCongress constantly talks about bringing back and keeping\ngood-paying American jobs. This actually gets it done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Defense was previously required to\npurchase American-made flatware, but due to a supply problem, this requirement\nwas removed in the 2007 NDAA. Since then, domestic flatware and dinnerware\nproduction has rebounded. Oneida County\u2019s Sherrill Manufacturing, located in\nSherrill, NY, produces several lines of flatware under the Liberty Tabletop\nbrand and continues to grow its American workforce and revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brindisi fought to get the&nbsp;SPOONS&nbsp;Act included in\nthe NDAA. His advocacy and leadership on the issue earned him praise from the\nbusiness community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to thank Congressman Brindisi for his advocacy on\nthis issue and for moving the ball forward on this legislation,\u201d&nbsp;said Greg\nOwens, CEO of Sherrill Manufacturing. \u201cThis will keep good-paying jobs in this\ncountry.
