On Tuesday, June 18, the Utica Public Library held a\nreception to announce the winners of its sixth annual photography contest for\nadults. Cash prizes were given out to the winners in attendance. Pictured from\nleft are Anthony M. Rabasca (Best of Show), Colleen Elliott-Blush (Best\nStriking Use of Color), Barbara Williams Hoehn (Best Nature), Katie\nSullivan (Best Architectural), Sydney Gape (Best Portrait), and John\nKelsey (Best Black & White). Library presents understanding and responding to dementia-related\nbehavior<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 5:30 p.m., the Utica Public Library\nwill host the Alzheimer’s Association presentation “Understanding and\nResponding to Dementia-Related Behavior” in the library gallery. Behavior\nis a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people\nwith dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as their ability to use\nlanguage is lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers. Learn\nto decode behavioral messages, identify triggers, and incorporate helpful\nstrategies. This lecture is free to the public. Registration is required. To\nregister, call 315.472.4201. Registration should be done at least five days\nbefore the program date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have a short story inside you? Library offers free literary\nshort story class<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Utica Public Library will host The Art of the Literary\nShort Story from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. This free, three-hour class\nwill be presented by educator, poet and author Suzanne Richardson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The class will cover terminology, technique, plot\ndevelopment and characterization. Registration is required; register by calling\n315.735.2279 or visiting uticapubliclibrary.org. Registration began at 8:30\na.m. July 24, 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
