What changes do\nyou think would help the community become healthier? Madison County wants to\nhear from you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every three years, the Madison County Department of Health\npartners with Oneida Healthcare and Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton to\nidentify and address local health priorities through a Community Health\nAssessment. During this assessment, the Health Department gathers information\nfrom its community partners, other health organizations, and members of the\npublic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Madison County Department of Health is looking for\ncommunity input by hosting a series of small group discussions of about 12\nMadison County residents around the county. Pre-registration is preferred, but\nnot required. Walk-ins are welcome. There are eight sessions across the county:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Brookfield. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Clear\nPath for Veterans, 1223 Salt Springs Road, Chittenango<\/li><li>DeRuyter. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 6:30 to 8 p.m. United\nChurch of DeRuyter Parish House, 1632 Cortland St., DeRuyter<\/li><li>Hamilton. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Hamilton\nPublic Library, 13 Broad St., Hamilton<\/li><li>Morrisville. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cornell\nCooperative Extension, 100 Eaton St., Morrisville<\/li><li>Oneida. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Karing\nKitchen, 116 West Grove St., Oneida<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The end result is a Community\nHealth Improvement Plan. This plan is used to set priorities for future\ninitiatives and strategies for the community. Hood is sending 16 deserving\nchildren to the state Sheriffs\u2019 Institute Summer Camp. Children from Madison\nCounty left Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, for their week of wholesome summer fun. The\nSheriffs\u2019 Summer Camp is located on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes Region of\nYates County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now in its 43rd year of operation, the camp will accommodate\nmore than 900 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 12 from across New York state\nthis summer. The campers attend at no charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Made possible by the generous financial support of the Honorary\nMembers of the Sheriffs\u2019 Institute, the Sheriffs&#8217; Summer Camp provides a solid\nrecreational program while stressing basic values and good citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe campers get an insider\u2019s look at the world of law\nenforcement,\u201d said Hood. \u201cBy working with and learning from the sheriffs and\ndeputy sheriffs at the camp, the kids develop a deeper respect for and\nunderstanding of the men and women who enforce our laws.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campers participate in typical camp activities, like\narchery, sailing, boating, hiking and talent shows. They also experience\ntechnical and safety demonstrations by deputy sheriffs such as scuba diving,\nK-9 handling, bicycle safety and boating safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sheriffs\u2019 Summer Camp is a program of the New York State\nSheriffs\u2019 Institute, Inc. The Sheriffs\u2019 Institute was established in 1979 with\nthe mission to assist the office of the sheriff in advancing education in the\ncriminal justice community, preventing juvenile delinquency, and supporting\nvictims of crime and their families. For more information, visit nysheriffsinstitute.org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>County joins NIOSH&nbsp;Total Worker Health&nbsp;affiliate program<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madison County Health Department is now an official\nAffiliate of the&nbsp;NIOSH&nbsp;Total Worker Health&nbsp;program. The&nbsp;Total\nWorker Health&nbsp;program, developed by the National Institute for Occupational\nSafety and Health, aims to promote the safety, health and well-being of\nworkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a&nbsp;Total Worker Health&nbsp;Affiliate, Madison County\nHealth Department actively assists in research, policies, practices, programs,\ninterventions and other work products that integrate protection from\nwork-related safety and health hazards with promotion of injury and illness\nprevention efforts to advance worker well-being. As an affiliate, Madison\nCounty Health Department has access to technical expertise and research\nfindings through shared databases, as well as the enhanced ability to deliver\neffective interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madison County Health Department is already working with\nthree local employers using&nbsp;a Total Worker Health&nbsp;program approach.\nAdditionally, Madison County Health Department is part of a local Planning\nCommittee for the Healthy Workforce Business Conference to be held Oct. 15&nbsp;in\nHamilton with conference speakers from NIOSH, the Harvard T.H.
