Neal, 22, from North Pitcher, was eastbound on State Route 20 when\nit crossed over the center lane and into the westbound lane, striking head-on a\n2016 Nissan Murano operated by MaryAnne Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neal sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment.\nSmith, 72, of West Winfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Utica man in critical\ncondition following a motorcycle crash in the town of Schuyler<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Aug. 9, 2019, at approximately 11:20 a.m., state police\nin Herkimer responded to Wood Lane in the town of Schuyler for a reported car-motorcycle\ncrash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preliminary investigation suggests a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup\ntruck operated by 32-year-old Cosmo Pellegrino, III, was southbound on Wood\nLane when he attempted to make a left turn into the Schuyler Town Park and\nentered the path of a 2001 Honda motorcycle that was northbound on Wood Lane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operator of the motorcycle, Stas Brutsky, 23, of Utica, attempted\nto stop but was unable to avoid striking the undercarriage of the pickup truck\nand was ejected from the motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brutsky was transported by Kunkle Ambulance to St.\nElizabeth&#8217;s Hospital in Utica and was then transferred via Medivac helicopter\nto SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse for severe head injuries and is\nlisted in critical condition. The subject, later identified as Justin\nCarter, 35, fired several shots toward troopers from at least two sides of the\nbarn. State police crisis negotiators spoke to Carter and, after several hours,\nhe voluntarily surrendered without incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter, of 6047 State Route 46, Verona, was arrested and\ncharged with the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First-degree attempted murder of a police officer,\na class A felony<\/li><li>First-degree reckless endangerment and menacing\na police officer, both class D felonies<\/li><li>Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a\nclass A misdemeanor<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter was transported to the Oneida County Jail for\ncentralized arraignment procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State police was assisted at the scene by members of the\nOneida County Sheriff&#8217;s Office and the Utica City Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Watertown man\narrested on burglary charges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State police in Alexandria Bay arrested Marcus W. Cicora<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is with deep regret and sadness Superintendent Keith M.\nCorlett is saddened to announce the Line-of-Duty death of Sergeant\/Station\nCommander Jeffrey M. Cicora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aug. 10, 2019, Cicora passed away from an illness stemming\nfrom his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist\nattack Sept. 11, 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following those events, Cicora was assigned to New York City\nto aid in the search and recovery efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cicora entered the state police Oct. 12, 1992, and served\nwith the state police for 24 years, retiring in May 2017 due to his illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cicora is from Baldwinsville and is survived by his wife and\ntheir son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrangements have been set for Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, and\nFriday, Aug. 16, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calling hours will be held Aug. 15 from 3 to 8 p.m. at\nImmaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville.
