On Aug. 17 and 18,\n2019, leagues from across the U.S. and Canada\nwill descend on Rome to play for a spot in the Men\u2019s Roller\nDerby Association Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eight teams will come to Rome, but only two will leave with\na chance to win it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first whistle is 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, the John F.\nKennedy Civic Arena, 500 W. Embargo St., Rome;\ndoors open at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a two-day tournament with six games played each\nday. Tickets are $25 per day or $40 for a weekend pass; they can be purchased\nat the door or online via Brown Paper Tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teams participating are Rome\u2019s very own\nMohawk Valley Roller Derby, Denver Ground Control, Lane County Concussion\n(Eugene\/Springfield, Ore.), Philadelphia Hooligans, Austin Anarchy, Chicago\nBruise Brothers, Race City Rebels (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Toronto Men\u2019s Roller\nDerby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohawk Valley Roller Derby is comprised of skaters from\nacross central New York, including Rome, Utica, Oneonta, Albany and more. MVRD\nis currently ranked 13th in the world, and this will be their second appearance\nat the North American Qualifiers.
