Chenango\u2019s oldest insurer has committed $250,000 toward a\nnew emergency room and walk-in center at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials from Preferred Mutual Insurance Company presented\na ceremonial check in the amount of $250,000 to hospital and campaign leaders Tuesday.\nThe pledge, to be paid over the next five years, is the largest corporate\ncommitment to be announced since the Norwich hospital kicked off a capital\ncampaign last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are proud to support UHS Chenango Memorial and its\ncampaign to improve access to emergency health services for the local\ncommunity,\u201d said Chris Taft, president and CEO of Preferred Mutual Insurance\nCompany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur roots are in Chenango County,\u201d said Taft. \u201cThis\ncommunity has supported us for more than 120 years as we\u2019ve grown into a top-200\nproperty and casualty insurer where we\u2019re committed to helping people live\nassured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo us, there is no better way to help this growing\ncommunity live assured than by supporting UHS Chenango Memorial\u2019s campaign to\nexpand the level of medical care and healthcare solutions availale. Dr. Drake Lamen, president and CEO of UHS Chenango Memorial,\nthanked Taft and his leadership team for their commitment to the hospital and\ncommunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the hospital chief executive, Preferred\nMutual\u2019s leadership gift brings the hospital closer to the capital campaign\u2019s\n$3.5 million fundraising threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign, announced at the grand opening of the\nfacility\u2019s new Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center earlier this month,\nwill support construction of a new emergency room and walk-in center, as well\nas strategic investments in diagnostic imaging and infrastructure to support\nthe growth of future services. The work is part of the first phase of the\nhospital\u2019s Chenango Medical Neighborhood Plan, which will transform the\ndelivery of care at UHS Chenango Memorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the largest concentrated investment in our facility\nin more than 50 years,\u201d Lamen said. \u201cPreferred Mutual\u2019s generous commitment of\n$250,000 will help ensure we can leverage both the state funding we are\nreceiving and our own resources to fully realize our vision for this project,\nand ensure the sustainability and vitality of our hospital for generations to\ncome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
