September brings back to school for many families and hour changes at the library. The library also has some interesting events planned for the month. We hope you will come out and take advantage of these programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sept. 2, the Canastota Library closed for Labor Day; however,\nthe library reopened Sept. 3 with the following hours: Monday through Thursday\n9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

College costs have skyrocketed in recent years. Many\nstudents are wondering how they will pay college tuition, book prices and room\nand board for their college years. On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., join Jon\nSmith as he talks about \u201cSaving for College.\u201d We hope you will call us at 315.697.7030\nto reserve your space for this talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukulele classes with instructor Deb Guarneiri will begin\nagain in September. Classes in September will be held Saturdays including Sept.\n7, 14, 21 and 28. Introduction to Ukulele Basics will begin at 1 p.m. This\nclass includes learning the fret board and becoming comfortable holding, tuning\nand strumming the ukulele. At 2 p.m., CLUES (Canastota Library Ukulele\nExtraordinary Strummers) Club will meet. During these sessions, the club plays\nfun songs and adds new songs to their collection. If you do not have a ukulele,\nthe library has several that can be loaned out. Children under 10 must be\naccompanied by an adult. Call to sign up for these ukulele programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., it\u2019s time for another Canaltown Talk\nwith Norman Dann. Dann will be talking about his newest book, \u201cGod, Gerrit and\nGuidance: The Life of Ann Carrol Fitzhugh Smith.\u201d Smith, her life and\ncontributions to abolition, women\u2019s rights, women\u2019s suffrage and religion will\nbe discussed. The Canalside Talks are a cooperative effort of the Canal Town\nMuseum and the library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m., Chris Dean will be talking\nabout how you can eliminate the cost of your cable television by using legal\nand fully licensed sources for alternative programming. Dean will highlight\nfree programming and resources that are available. Dean has previously provided\nprofessional advice and services to the Alliance for Creativity and\nEntertainment and the Motion Picture Association of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., join Kristin Welch, recycling\ncoordinator for Madison County Department of Solid Waste for a discussion on\nthe Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts of Recycling. This talk will explain Madison County\u2019s new\nrecycling guidelines and answer any questions you may have regarding recycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Sept. 23, the library welcomes CNY Hemp\nProcessing of Canastota and its president, Stephen Halton. Halton will talk\nabout the new company, their product line and expansion efforts in our\ncommunity. The talk will begin at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amanda Douglass of NBT Bank will speak about \u201cCredit\nReports, Protecting Your Credit and Your Identity\u201d at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.\nDouglass will speak about the importance of protecting your credit and other\nfine points regarding financial literacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Art Exhibit this month in the Lawson Community Room is\nthe work of The Exceptional Artists. The Exceptional Artworks program, whose\nmission is to increase public awareness of the talents of people with\ndisabilities, provides the artists with opportunities to express their thoughts\nand feelings through the arts. We hope you will stop by the library to see this\nwonderful display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
