Cazenovia Public Library to host LEGO building session\nfor kids<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cazenovia Public\nLibrary invites children ages 5 and older to the Community Room at 3:30\np.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 to channel their inner architects and get\nbuilding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children\u2019s Program\nCoordinator Jenna Wright Martin will lead \u201cLEGO My Library,\u201d a fun, hands-on\nprogram for young builders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants will\nhave access to the Library\u2019s vast collection of LEGO construction toys. The\nprogram will feature a \u201cmarble run\u201d challenge and time for creative\nconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Library is a\nplace of imagination and discovery. Programs like \u201cLEGO My Library\u201d allow\nchildren to socialize, be creative, and see their imaginings come to life.\nConstruction toys offer significant educational benefits to children of all\nages. Not only is hands-on play fun and exciting, but it also helps to develop\nmotor and spatial skills, ingenuity, critical thinking, social and language proficiencies,\nand more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cazenovia Public Library to host junior book club<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Wild and\nWonderful Readers\u201d junior book club will hold its next meeting at 3:30 p.m. on\nTuesday, Sept. 10 in the Cazenovia Public Library Story Garden Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session will\ncombine book discussion, games and hands-on creative activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group will\ndiscuss \u201cLucky Broken Girl\u201d by Ruth Behar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the\nauthor\u2019s childhood in the 1960s, the novel tells the story of a young\nCuban-Jewish immigrant girl adjusting to her new life in New York City when an\naccident threatens to derail her American dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The junior book club\nis open to children ages 9-14. Books are available at the circulation desk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cazenovia Public Library to host Mother Goose Tea for\nfamilies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preschoolers and\ntheir families are invited to the Cazenovia Public Library for a Mother Goose\nTea celebrating the stories and rhymes we all know and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will be\nheld Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program will\nfeature stories, refreshments and activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is\nsponsored by the Friends of the Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Library to host lecture on the heroes of Pearl Harbor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cazenovia Public\nLibrary is pleased to welcome Frank T. Stritter, Ph.D. back to the Community\nRoom at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 for a special presentation, titled \u201cA\nTribute to Heroism at Pearl Harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is\nsponsored by the Cazenovia America Legion Post 88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 7, 1941\nwas, in President Franklin Roosevelt\u2019s immortal words, \u201ca day that will live in\ninfamy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On that day, the\nskies over the US Naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, filled with the drone of\nmore than 350 Japanese fighter planes and bombers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a two-hour\nsurprise attack, the Japanese strike force rained fire on the unprepared US\nPacific fleet, damaging or destroying some 20 ships and 200 aircraft and\ninflicting 3,500 casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack thrust\nthe United States into World War II, as Congress declared war on Japan the\nfollowing day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many heroes stepped\nforward on that fateful day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stritter\u2019s presentation\nwill describe the contributions of ten individual heroes, including battleship\ncommanders, underwater welders, and operating room nurses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stritter is a\nProfessor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a US\nArmy veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 88.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture is free\nand open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cazenovia Public Library to host lecture on Edwardian\nwomen\u2019s fashion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cazenovia Public Library will host a presentation on\nEdwardian women\u2019s fashion at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 in the Community Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costume historian Kjirsten Gustavson will explore the layers\nof undergarments beneath an Edwardian woman\u2019s fashionable dress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lively talk will include reproduction corsets, bum pads,\npetticoats, and a live model to reveal what it actually felt like to wear those\nclothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gustavson will also use period newspaper articles and\nfashion magazines to explore the impacts of mass production in the New York\nfashion industry from the factory, to the store, to the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
