Then\nyou\u2019ll head to Randallsville on the main line, hop on the Utica Division\nthrough Hamilton to Pecksport where you will gain the Pecksport Loop to return\nto the mainline at Whites Corners, from there you will take the main line back\nto Morrisville. For more information, call\n(315) 684-9130.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Saturday Sept.\n14<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;from 10 am to 5:30 p.m. the Madison County Historical\nSociety will host its annual hop festival. <\/strong>Come and hear guest\nspeakers, talk to vendors, see special hop displays and the crowning of the Hop\nKing &amp; Queen all for FREE!!!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2002 Hop King Al Bullard will be at the Carriage Barn\nstarting at 10 a.m. Bullard is the author of&nbsp;Bittersweet: Hop Culture in Central New York, and will be\navailable to answer questions about the exhibit, demonstrate the use of hop tools\nfrom his own collection and help visitors identify their own tools that they\nbring to the festival. At 2:15 Bullard will present&nbsp;Hop Equipment Manufactured in Central New\nYork. Bullard will identify tools and equipment from specific\nmanufacturing locations in Madison, Oneida, Otsego and Schoharie counties and\nshow newly found tools. Visitors are encouraged to bring tools from their own\ncollection for identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 3:15 1998 Hop King Michael A Tomlan, PhD, will\nexplain&nbsp;Why did the Hop Industry\nMove West? Tomlan, author of&nbsp;Tinged\nwith Gold: Hop Culture in the United States, will look at the US hop\nindustry from its early days in Massachusetts, to the robust agricultural\nindustry in New York State and onward to the west.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 4:15 2000 Hop King Carl Stearns will present&nbsp;Relocating 19<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Century Hop\nHouses. He will look at how Madison County has lost some of its oldest\nhop houses to the sale and move of these special structures. Stearns is a\nwell-known CNY preservation architect and was the Chairman of the Madison\nCounty Bicentennial Architecture and Preservation Committee. He received an\naward from the NYS Barn Coalition for his work in rural preservation. He moved\na forgotten Route 20 hop house to his own property and has worked on other\nrelocation projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. you can purchase tickets to the\n\u201cTaste of Hops\u201d tent where area restaurants create an appetizer utilizing craft\nbeer as a main ingredient and pair it with a craft beer. Each year restaurants\nand caterers partake in a friendly competition vying for a variety of titles\njudged by the public who sample the fare. Attendees must be 21+ with valid ide\nto sample the craft beer. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the\nevent. Attendees receive with a complimentary 5 oz. glass. This\nlively talk will include reproduction corsets, bum pads, and petticoats on a\nlive model to uncover what it felt like to wear all those clothes. Gustavson\nwill also use period newspaper articles and fashion magazines to explore the\nimpacts of mass production in the New York fashion industry from the factory,\nto the store, to the home. This will be\nfollowed by the a re-enactment of a soldier burial. From there attendees will\ntravel to the Nelson Rural Cemetery where caretaker Fay Lyon will give a\nhistorical synopsis and some noted burial sites. There is no charge for this\nevent. For more information, call Sonia Davies at (315) 655-3298.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Saturday Oct.\n5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;at 10:30 am the Canastota Canal Town Museum will host a\nwalking tour of portions of Canal, North Main, Center and North Peterboro\nStreets.<\/strong> Starting at Canal Town Museum attendees will hear the\nstories of a number of buildings along canal street before moving south on\nNorth Main where they will hear about the Canastota Library and former\nCanastota Hospitals. From there the tour will head east on Center Street where\nstories about the Methodist Church, Free Church and Bruno building will be\ntold. The tour will finish heading north on Peterboro street hearing about the\nbuildings and the former canal bridge. The tour will take approximately 45\nmintues to an hour and feature historic photos from the Canal Town Museum\nCollection. There is no charge for this event.
