In conjunction with the HomeOwnership Center, NBT Bank, One\nRealty and Attorney Kevin Leahy the AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center at\nthe Utica Municipal Housing Authority will offer a free workshop for first-time\nhomebuyers from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Utica Public\nLibrary, 303 Genesee St., Utica, in the second-floor gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is open to the public; refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar, “Thinking about Buying a Home?” will\n review the pros and cons of purchasing a home, pre-purchase planning,\nunderstanding credit, choosing the right mortgage, finding a real estate agent,\nbenefits of a home inspection, homeownership counseling services and legal\nconcerns.
\n\u201cThe purpose of the workshop is to help first-time homebuyers to determine if\nthey are ready to move from renting to buying a home,\u201d said John Furman, director\nof grants, programs, compliance, and monitoring. \u201cWe will let participants\nknow what they need to do now to realize their dream of buying a home. We\nare excited about sponsoring this workshop and hope that our tenants and\nSection 8 voucher-holders will attend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers will include Elizabeth Preuss, Housing Advisor,\nHomeOwnership Center; Lou DeMichele, One Realty; Harry Cooper, NBT Bank; and\nAttorney Kevin Leahy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Housing Authority AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center\nwill be available to provide information about local programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
