Blanchard, a lifelong resident of Canastota and Canastota Central\nSchool District graduate, is currently employed as a 10th grade English teacher\nfor the Utica City School District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI grew up in this community, and I want to keep giving back\nto it,\u201d Blanchard said. \u201cI want to build on the time I\u2019ve spent on the\nCanastota Recreation Commission by serving on the town council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur government can work harder for the people in town \u2013 and\nI\u2019ll make sure it does. After a decade or more of the same faces every year, I\nthink people around here are ready for a change. We need more transparency in\nour local government, we need representatives to be open to fresh ideas, and we\nneed people to hold our representatives accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think it\u2019s important to have new blood in the town board\nto make sure that happens, so I decided to step up to the plate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blanchard graduated from Canastota High School in 2012,\nearned a bachelor\u2019s degree in English from SUNY Geneseo in 2016, and earned a\nmaster\u2019s degree in literacy education in 2018. He is certified to teach English\nin grades 7-12 and has been teaching since 2016.
