The Greater Syracuse Labor Council has joined The Central New\nYork Labor Council and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers\nLocal Union 43 in offering their endorsements to Scott Blanchard in his\ncandidacy for the Lenox Town Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blanchard, a lifelong resident of Canastota and Canastota\nCentral School District graduate, is currently employed as a 10th-grade English\nteacher for the Utica City School District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI grew up in this community, and I want to keep giving back\nto it,\u201d Blanchard said. \u201cI want to build on the time I\u2019ve spent on the\nCanastota Recreation Commission by serving on the town council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur government can work harder for the people in town \u2013 and\nI\u2019ll make sure it does. After a decade or more of the same faces every year, I\nthink people around here are ready for a change. We need more transparency in\nour local government, we need representatives to be open to fresh ideas, and we\nneed people to hold our representatives accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s important to have new blood in the town board\nto make sure that happens, so I decided to step up to the plate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blanchard graduated from Canastota High School in 2012,\nearned a bachelor\u2019s degree in English from SUNY Geneseo in 2016, and earned a\nmaster\u2019s degree in literacy education in 2018. He is certified to teach English\nin grades 7-12 and has been teaching since 2016. He has also served on the\nCanastota Recreation Commission for more than a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
