ARISE Child & Family Services is looking for\ncompassionate and dedicated volunteers to become Long Term Care Ombudsmen and\nadvocate for those who need help the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ombudsmen are certified volunteers who visit nursing homes\nand assisted living facilities to help advocate for residents. They can provide\nguidance and information during difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volunteers learn through an extensive certification\ntraining. Plus, there are regular training updates so they can counsel\nresidents and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topics include: resident\u2019s rights, care expectations,\ndietary concerns, advanced directives and more. When necessary, the ombudsman\nadvocates for the residents and help resolve their concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve completed the training, you set your own\nschedule. Whether you can share two hours a week or 10, you can make a\ndifference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Ombudsman volunteer must be a dedicated and\nprofessional person who wants to truly make a difference in the lives of our\nelders during this most vulnerable time in their lives,\u201d said Jeff Parker, regional\ncoordinator. \u201cEveryone who volunteers will tell you they get so much more out\nof it then they put into it. The rewards are hard to put into words.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here in the Syracuse area, the state Long Term Care\nOmbudsman Program is facilitated by ARISE, Inc. ARISE is an independent living\ncenter working to ensure that everyone, regardless of disability, has the\npower to make life choices and achieve his or her dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ARISE will offer the free Ombudsman training course for\ninterested volunteers from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 4, 5, 7 and 14. Applicants\nare required to attend all training courses to obtain certification.
