The annual distinction,\nis \u201cawarded to the library that exemplifies excellence across a variety of markers,\u201d\naccording to CLRC. The Library of the Year award was open to all academic,\npublic, school, and special libraries in Herkimer, Oneida, Onondaga and Madison\ncounties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CLRC officials said judges selected the New Woodstock Free\nLibrary based on the quality of the nomination submitted and were impressed\nwith the partnership that was established with an adjoining township to bring\nlibrary materials to underserved and unserved populations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nomination detailed that \u201cFor more than three quarters\nof a century the New Woodstock Free Library has brought \u201cculture to the\ncountry\u201d with continuous exhibits and events presenting arts, entertainment and\ninformation. Among some 200 distinct exhibits the library has curated are: shows\nby the Cazenovia Watercolor Society, agriculture themed displays, annual\nstudent art shows and programs addressing social and public information topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently the library partnered with Georgetown with a\ndemonstration grant to bring \u201cbooks closer to the county,\u201d said Georgetown\nSupervisor Pete Walrod. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this initiative residents of Georgetown can pick up\nand return library materials at the Town Hall, as well as use the dedicated\nInternet computer provided through the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNew Woodstock is a full service, customer-focused modern\nlibrary serving a diverse rural demographic, so that residents don\u2019t have to\ngive up big city culture for the charm of country life,\u201d Library Director Norm\nParry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a credit to our staff, volunteers, trustees and community\npartners that New Woodstock has received this award,\u201d Parry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library is located at 2106 Main Street (Route 13), New\nWoodstock.
