Sessions will be held at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on each\nday&nbsp;at the Chancellor Apartments Community Room, 417 Bleecker Street,\nUtica. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes. Members will start\ntheir 12-month term of service starting in January 2019. AmeriCorps members\ncommit to serve our community for at least a year and receive a modest living\nstipend, an educational award, child care, student loan deferment, and career\npathway training in human services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications are due December 20. Applicants must be at\nleast 18 years of age. Members may apply now through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/my.americorps.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/my.americorps.gov<\/a>.\nApplicants should use Internet Explorer, select the \u201cApply to Serve\u201d button,\nand search the listings for the Utica Public Housing AmeriCorps Program by\nselecting&nbsp;AmeriCorps State\/National, New York State, Utica, and Utica\nPublic Housing AmeriCorps Program. AmeriCorps\nis a program that engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each\nyear at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based\ngroups across the country. AmeriCorps members receive a modest living\nallowance, fringe benefits, an education award, health insurance, childcare,\nand professional development opportunities. AmeriCorps members have the\nopportunity to gain personal and professional development skills, take on leadership\nroles, receive training and mentoring in paraprofessional case management and\nservice coordination, work with community partners, and build professional\nnetworks. The program is recruiting a wide range of members including seniors,\nyoung people, people changing careers, and others who want to make a difference\nin their communities. The program has both full and part-time slots available. Six\nof the AmeriCorps members work at Upstate Cerebral Palsy helping disabled youth\nand adults and the&nbsp;Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees (The Center)\nassisting newcomers to obtain jobs and housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Utica MHA program, AmeriCorps members help people\nmove out of poverty by focusing on community needs such as economic\nopportunity, poverty reduction, human services, housing, financial literacy,\njob development, service coordination, youth, elderly and disabled, and veteran\nservices. Members will also be assigned to work at local agencies serving the\ndisabled, refugees, and immigrants as well as the Utica Public Library Outreach\nCenter, Cornerstone Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, public housing\ndevelopments, and other locations through the UMHA Homeless Street Outreach\nProgram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program receives funding from the U.S. Corporation for\nNational and Community Service, which is administered in New York State by the\nNYS Commission on National and Community Service as well as the NYS Office of\nChildren and Family Services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AmeriCorps Program is also seeking nonprofit\norganizations, colleges, schools, health care providers, Native American\ntribes, and government agencies in Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties to\nserve as host sites for AmeriCorps members.
