The\nbill calls for entrepreneurship training unique to the needs of 50+ New Yorkers\nto be made available in each economic development region across the state to\nensure access to and awareness of these services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe tend to think of entrepreneurship as a young person\u2019s\npursuit,\u201d said May, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Aging. \u201cIn fact,\nnationwide, Americans in the 55-to-64 age group start new businesses at a\nhigher rate than those in their 20s and 30s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhether these older entrepreneurs are postponing retirement\nout of economic necessity or simply to pursue a long-held desire to launch a\nstart-up, this bill would help ensure they have the tech skills and social\nmedia marketing know-how to make those ventures a success, generate new jobs,\nand help grow the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEncore entrepreneurs face unique challenges, and this bill\nwould help tailor New York\u2019s programming for those needs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May said the governor\u2019s veto was particularly frustrating\ngiven that the bill so clearly aligns with his own 2018 executive order\ndesignating New York as the first \u201cage-friendly state\u201d in the nation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">May pledged to continue working to advance this and other\nmeasures that help address the widely diverse needs of older New Yorkers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey are not a one-size-fits-all demographic,\u201d she said,\n\u201cand our policy-making should reflect that. When we empower those who have both\nthe deep experience and the drive to launch a new business venture later in\nlife, we all stand to gain from their success.
