Providing assistance for a total of 19 people<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Red Cross is assisting a total of 19\nresidents from nine apartments impacted by a fire Sunday morning on Cayuga Street\nin Fulton. A team of eight Disaster Action Team volunteers responded to the\nincident. The First United Methodist Church located nearby provided space for\nimpacted residents to gather for comfort, food and refreshments and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Red Cross assistance typically includes funding for\ntemporary housing, food and clothing, health services as needed, and\nspecially-trained Disaster Mental Health volunteers are available to help those\naffected deal with the emotional aspect of their disaster. Affected families\nwill meet with caseworkers in the coming days to work on a long-term recovery\nplan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a typical\nyear, home fires kill more people in the United States than all natural\ndisasters combined. The Red Cross encourages everyone to take two steps to help\nkeep their families safe: Test your smoke alarms every month and practice your\nhome fire escape plan at least twice a year.
