Award-winning photographer Gerard Gaskin exhibits work, hosts presentation Feb. 6<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The work of award-winning photographer Gerard Gaskin is on\ndisplay at the SUNY Morrisville Donald G. Butcher Library now through March 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaskin\u2019s show, \u201cLegendary: Inside the House Ballroom\nScene,\u201d documents the performative and aesthetic history of the African\nAmerican and Latinx House Ballroom community from 1993 to present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the show, Gaskin will present \u201cSeeing the Big\nPicture: Life as an Entrepreneur,\u201d a discussion about his photographic\npractice, influences, artwork and career, on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m., in\nthe Athletics Stadium Hospitality Suite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An art reception will follow, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., in the\nlibrary. Events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaskin, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, who is now based in\nSyracuse, earned a B.A. from Hunter College in 1994 and is a freelance\nphotographer based in the greater New York City area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has shown throughout the United States and abroad, and\nhis work also is a part of permanent collections in The Museum of the City of\nNew York and The Philadelphia Museum of Art, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaskin is a recipient of The New York Foundation for the\nArts Artist Fellowship for Photography and was part of the Gordon Parks\u2019 90,<\/em> which\ngathered 90 black photographers from throughout the United States to celebrate\nhis 90th birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaskin\u2019s photo exhibit is one of many events planned by the\ncollege in celebration of Black History Month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
