Anthony Brindisi<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Congressman: These dollars get our local fire departments the gear they need and my office is here to help<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency\u2019s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) is now taking applications from local fire departments. Brindisi announced FEMA\u2019s application period will last until Friday, March 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAFG dollars help our local departments get the gear, training, and resources they need,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Brindisi said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI am willing to fight to bring these crucial dollars back to our district and any department in our area should reach out to my office for help in securing these funds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AFG funds can be used for training, equipment, vehicles, and other necessities for local fire departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Brindisi secured more than $2 million in AFG dollars for area fire departments. Additionally, Brindisi pushed the House Appropriations Committee to fully fund these grant programs at $405 million for the AFG program. The Fiscal Year 2020 House Homeland Security Appropriations bill included a $50 million increase in firefighter grants over Fiscal Year 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire department should apply directly to FEMA, but Brindisi\u2019s office is available to answer questions and provide letters of support. Departments interested in applying should contact Brindisi\u2019s Utica office at 315-732-0713. FEMA will be hosting webinars offering assistance to fire departments.
