Lupardo\/May bill latest effort to grow NYS craft beverage industry<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A taste of one of New York\u2019s most popular beverages will now\ncome tax-free following legislation that was signed into law Monday.\nAssemblywoman Donna Lupardo and Senator Rachel May authored the legislation\nthat exempts samples of beer from sales tax in tasting rooms throughout the\nstate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been focused on growIng New York\u2019s craft beer\nindustry for many years now,\u201d said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. \u201cThis reform\nwill encourage consumers to try different varieties of beer while supporting\nNY\u2019s world-class craft breweries. I\u2019d like to thank Senator May for partnering\nwith me on this legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNew York is home to more than 400 breweries, and I am happy\nto work with Assemblywoman Lupardo to make it easier for them to provide\ntastings that will attract more people to their businesses and introduce more\npeople to wonderful New York state beer,\u201d May said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beer was previously tax-exempt if it was given away in\ntasting rooms, but not if businesses charged for samples. The wine industry has\nalready been afforded this exemption and the new law levels the playing field\nfor other craft beverages. Under the law, tasting rooms will be able to sell up\nto four, four-ounce servings without charging tax. This change in the alcohol\nbeverage control law was a top priority for the NYS Brewers Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would like to thank Assemblywoman Lupardo and Senator May\nfor sponsoring the Use & Sales Tax exemption for breweries that sell\nsamples of beers in their tap rooms,\u201d said Kristen Lyons, owner of Binghamton\nBrewing Co. and Board Member of the NYS Brewers Association. \u201cFlights are\nextremely popular in breweries and are an important source of revenue for\nsmall, growing breweries. Exempting sales tax on these samples allows breweries\nto reinvest in equipment, infrastructure and jobs, which will further add to\nthe growth of our industry and craft beers\u2019 $5.4 billion impact in New York\nstate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
