McGowan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York Water Environment Association, a statewide organization of water quality management professionals, has awarded\u00a0John C. McGowan<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>a Water Environment Federation Lifetime Membership Award. During NYWEA\u2019s 92<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0annual meeting awards luncheon Feb. 5, 2020, NYWEA President\u00a0Robert Wither<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>presented McGowan with the honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award recognizes active membership of NYWEA, a Member\nAssociation of the international Water Environment Federation, for at least 35\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome career opportunities come your way only once in a\nlifetime,\u201d said McGowan. \u201cThe pathway we choose sets the course for life\nachievements. During my career, I have found that creative thinking leads to\nemerging technologies that help to protect our water resources. Becoming a\ncertified plant operator is the best career choice I ever made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGowan earned his associate of applied science degree from\nAlfred State College and attended SUNY College of Environmental Science and\nForestry for training to become certified as a Grade 2 Wastewater Operator. In\n1982, he upgraded his certification to a 3A Operator with more responsibility\nand even greater opportunities to be an operator of record at several municipal\nand private wastewater plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McGowan is employed as a systems engineer at Koester\nAssociates in Canastota. He lives in Chittenango with his wife JoAnn; they have\ntwo sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1929 by professionals in the field of water\nquality as a nonprofit educational organization, NYWEA has 2,700 members\nstatewide and hosts several technical conferences each year for environmental\nengineers, scientists, public officials and others who work in water and\nwastewater quality management. In addition, NYWEA sponsors a scholarship\nprogram, publishes Clear Waters, a quarterly educational magazine, and\nadministers the wastewater operator certification program. NYWEA also supports\nhumanitarian clean water projects. Headquartered in Syracuse, NYWEA has seven\nregional chapters, 14 college student chapters and is a member association of\nthe international Water Environment Federation.
