There are no cases in New York state; we consider the risk to be low\nat this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur department conducts daily disease surveillance and is\nactively working with our healthcare partners to identify and respond to\ndisease threats to our community,\u201d said Public Health Director Eric Faisst\nsaid. \u201cShould the situation change, we are prepared to respond.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faisst encourages residents to observe the following health\npractices daily to help reduce the spread of illness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.<\/li><li>Avoid close contact with others who are sick,<\/li><li>Stay home from work or school when sick.<\/li><li>Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing.<\/li><li>Regularly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.<\/li><li>Avoid sharing personal items with others, especially those who are sick, including utensils, cups, toothbrushes and towels.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not too late to get a flu shot, which offers the most\nprotection against the flu. Flu shots are available at most pharmacies, health\ncare provider offices and at the Health Department.
