To help promote recycling education within the\ncommunity, the department is launching their new online waste sorting game. The\n\u2018RePlay Game\u2019 tests resident\u2019s knowledge on whether a material should be\nrecycled or thrown in the garbage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018RePlay Game\u2019 features the following five locations for\nsorting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u2018Paper\u2019 recycling bin for items such as\nnewspapers, junk mail and cardboard boxes<\/li><li>\u2018Containers\u2019 recycling bin for items such as\nplastic bottles, jugs, metal food containers and glass bottles<\/li><li>\u2018Trash\u2019 can for materials that do not have a\nrecycling stream<\/li><li>\u2018Yard Waste\u2019 drop-off for materials such as\nbranches and yard trimmings<\/li><li>Special Programs Building for the\nhard-to-recycle materials such as batteries, clothing and sharps. For more\ninformation on how and where to dispose of these specific items, the department\nencourages residents to use their online search tool.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope this game will be used as a learning tool not only\nfor students, but also for adults who are interested in testing their local\nrecycling knowledge,\u201d said Recycling Coordinator Kristin Welch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch also coincides with the last month of the\n\u2018Rethink Waste Challenge,\u2019 a kindergarten through 12th-grade student\ncompetition running through April 3, 2020. As part of the competition, students\nmust learn about their local recycling program and submit either a video\nrelated to rethinking waste at home or school or a piece of artwork using\nmostly recyclable items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can enter as an individual or as part of a group or\nclass. The winners will be announced April 22 through social media and\nrecognized at the 30 Years of Recycling Celebration event May 30, 2020, where\nall submissions will be on display for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prizes will be awarded to the top candidates in the\nfollowing categories: Grades K-4, Grades 5-8 and Grades 9-12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To see the competition rules, along with information on how\nto enter, visit madisoncountyrecycles.ny.gov\/rethinkwastechallenge.
