The map will be updated twice daily (morning and afternoon), along\nwith numbers, on the Madison County Health Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.madisoncounty.ny.gov\/2479\/Coronavirus-COVID-19\">web page<\/a>&nbsp;twice\ndaily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Health Department conducts an investigation with each person\ntesting positive and contacts those who may have been within close contact\nabout possible exposure and the need to self-quarantine.&nbsp; Quarantine is\nfor individuals who have come into close contact with a positive person but are\nnot displaying symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to remind people that this virus is spread through\nclose contact,\u201d said Madison County Public Health Director Eric Faisst. \u201cWe can\nstop this by working together. The decision each of us makes now will impact us\nall tomorrow and beyond. Stay home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Health Department will continue to update these numbers on\nthe Health Department\u2019s COVID-19 website; however, we will no longer send media\nreleases about additional confirmed cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local health officials are using the state Department of Health\nrecommendations and focusing on only testing the people with symptoms of\nCOVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath) that fall into one of these\ncategories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Has come into close contact (same office,\nclassroom, gatherings) of another person known to be positive;<\/li><li>Has traveled to a country that the CDC has\nissued a Level 2 or Level 3 Travel Health Notice (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/index.html<\/a>);<\/li><li>Is currently is under quarantine;<\/li><li>Has already tested negative for other types of\ninfections (rapid flu tests, respiratory panel); or<\/li><li>Other cases where facts and circumstances\nwarrant testing as determined by their healthcare provider.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Health Department would like to remind residents to practice\nsocial distancing and good hygiene.&nbsp; These are our only defenses against\nthis virus.&nbsp; Do not go out in public unless you have to.&nbsp; Remember,\nyou can get it, and you can transmit it.&nbsp; The best defense is limiting the\namount of people you are exposed to, if not for yourself then for others.&nbsp;\nAvoid visits with friends and family, and do not hold meetings of any kind\nunless virtual. Keep six feet of distance from others in public and cancel\nunnecessary travel plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are sick or feeling mildly ill, please stay home and\nmonitor your symptoms.&nbsp; Call your primary healthcare provider if you have\nany questions or, if you do not have a healthcare provider, please contact the\nUpstate University Hospital Triage Line at 315-464-3979.&nbsp; Please do not go\ndirectly to the Emergency Room or your health care provider without calling\nahead.&nbsp; If you develop emergency warning signs (e.g. difficult breathing,\npersistent chest pain or pressure, new confusion or inability to arouse, bluish\nlips or face), call 911 and get medical attention immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What can I do to prevent the spread of germs?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Practice social distancing \u2013 avoid get-togethers\nwith friends and family, and unnecessary trips to public places<\/li><li>Wash your hands often with soap and water for at\nleast 20 seconds.
