{"id":116697,"date":"2021-02-04T21:09:38","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T02:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=116697"},"modified":"2021-02-04T21:09:38","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T02:09:38","slug":"national-wear-red-day-is-feb-5-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=116697","title":{"rendered":"National Wear Red Day is Feb. 5, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The American Heart Association\u2019s Go Red for Women brings urgent awareness to women\u2019s No. 1 health threat in the Mohawk Valley<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, heart disease remains the leading killer of women in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association\u2019s newly released 2021 Heart Disease &amp; Stroke Statistics.<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_197699899304884190__ftn1\">[1]<\/a>&nbsp;At the same time, recent market research has indicated that the youngest most diverse women are the least aware that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is their greatest health threat.<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_197699899304884190__ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Heart Association,&nbsp;the leading global volunteer organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke,&nbsp;is calling on women in the Utica area to spread awareness on National Wear Red Day, Feb. 5, 2021, that&nbsp;one in three women are dying from cardiovascular disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women (and men) are encouraged to \u201cwear red and give\u201d as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Heart Association<\/a>\u2019s signature movement,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goredforwomen.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Go Red for Women<\/a>, nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with support from National Wear Red Day matching partner Big Lots and the Big Lots Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning at 4 p.m. on Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 5, companies in the Utica area will illuminate their buildings red to help raise awareness about heart disease in women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heart disease&nbsp;kills one woman every 80 seconds and takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20s.<a href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_197699899304884190__ftn3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Heart Association\u2019s Go Red for Women movement encourages people to take action through the month of February by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wearing red on National Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease.
